The founder and executive director of the Atta Mills Institute has reacted to the outcome of the 2024 general elections.
Koku Anyidoho believes the successful outcome of the elections has moved our democratic frontiers to a notch higher.
He commended Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for his early concession ahead of the official declaration by the Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC).
He said in a post on X, formerly Twitter, that the early concession by the vice president reminded him of the concession by President-elect John Dramani Mahama in 2016.
He congratulated the president-elect for winning the elections.
He indicated that Ghana should be the first in everything we do after the successful organisation of the elections.
He wrote “Ghana has moved our democratic frontiers notches higher. Vice Prez & Flagbearer of NPP, Dr. Bawumia, concedes defeat ahead of EC’s declaration. Reminds me of Prez Mahama doing same in 2016. Congratulations to the President-Elect.Let’s enjoy Christmas in peace. Ghana ???????? First????❤️”

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia on December 8 conceded defeat and extended his congratulations to President-elect John Dramani Mahama.
In an address to the media, he explained that the provisional election results collated by his team should have lost the race.
“I have spoken to President-elect John Dramani Mahama to congratulate him on his victory. The people of Ghana have spoken, and we must respect their decision,” Dr. Bawumia stated.
On December 9, 2024, the Lectoral Commissioner, Jean Mensa, declared the President-elect of last Saturday’s general election.
She made the declaration at the commission’s corporate head office in Accra.
She announced that Mr. Mahama secured 6,328,397 (6.32 million) votes, representing 56.55 percent of the valid votes cast.
Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, the candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), polled 4,657,304 (4.65 million), representing 41.61 percent of the total valid votes cast.
The EC chairperson announced that the EC used the results from 267 constituencies, as results from nine constituencies were outstanding.
