Phew!!!
So, election 2024 has come and gone huh?
Do you remember all the fiery speeches and calls for the country to burn?
Do you recall all the vile things said about the Electoral Commission/Commissioner (EC) and how the Voters Register was supposedly being doctored to favour the ruling party?
Do you recall the wild animal called “Forensic Audit”, that threatened to tear our flesh into pieces?
Do you remember how almost all State Institutions were bastardized?
Do you remember how specific individuals were isolated and insulted only because they were either doing their jobs or held contrary views (I am not excluded)?
Talking about insults hurled; I am not too sure how some of those words can be taken back and wounds healed but I leave that to the persons who hurled the insults to deal with it themselves.
In all of it, some of us were never in doubt that the heat shall ultimately pipe down and Ghana shall jump over another election hurdle (as has been the norm) without the nation being torn apart.
Having graduated from the revered Trinity Theological Seminary and orbiting in the realms of, National Discourse as a, Watchman/Nationalist/ Statesman/Intercessor, my ascension onto pedestals of higher national duty has obviously not sat well with those who refuse to accept my ascension. Whether they accept it or not, my commitment is to God and Country.
Holding on to a solid pledge (not just a mantra), of, “Ghana First”, I continue to hold the Flag of Ghana ???????? as the National Symbol on which my covenant with God is rooted – serving my Motherland over and above any other parochial/sectarian interest.
As an officially accredited observer (The Atta-Mills Institute was accredited) by the EC, ipso facto, the Election Day (E Day), processes were extremely free and fair from start to finish.
Can anyone fault the high levels of transparency and integrity of the election process? I doubt!
The low turnout of voters across all 16 Regions has got nothing to do with the EC.
The splitting of hitherto large polling stations into smaller ones also allowed for seamless voting.
Of course, results collation has always been hit by some waves of controversy – this year being no exception.
As it stands now, the EC, as the official Election Management Body (EMB), is applying all its inherent constitutional authority to correct all existing post-election anomalies related to collation and declaration of results in certain constituencies (only 2 left at the time of writing this piece).
As my Theme has it; “Peace We Wanted: Peace We Have”.
Kudos to His Excellency Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Presidential Candidate of the NPP, for his very early concession speech, which sits well in history as the earliest to have happened since the inception of our Fourth Republican dispensation in 1992.
As I move through our peaceful Ghana since Sunday, December 8, 2024, every Ghanaian I have spoken to is full of praise for Dr. Bawumia for his early concession speech which has largely contributed to the peace being enjoyed.
Ayekoo to Dr. Bawumia and his Running Mate, Dr. Matthew Opoku-Prempeh for making themselves available to lead the NPP and thus putting themselves up to either win or accept defeat – whichever way it goes.
Both gentlemen have added a feather to the cap of Ghana’s democracy and they are allowed to take salutes for their participation.
Of course, President-Elect John Dramani Mahama and Vice President-Elect, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, also deserve congratulations for their victory and for a battle well fought.
His Excellency President Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo’s quick setting-up of the Transition Process and his obvious preparedness to handover smoothly on 7th January, 2025, is also highly commendable and moves Ghana’s democratic frontiers notches higher.
All-in-all, despite the isolated cases of violence, as a nation, Ghana and Ghanaians can take pride in what we have collectively achieved after 32 years of our nascent democratic journey.
The vigilance of all Ghanaians – official and non-official, has brought us this far and we must all pat ourselves on the back.
The Security Services, Media, Civil Society, Faith Based Organizations and Development Partners, are all part of the broader effort and we appreciate all the efforts.
Many more rivers to cross; many more mountains to climb; many more valleys to descend into; many more tears to shed; many more laughs to share – in it all, I give ultimate thanks to God Almighty for His grace and mercies.
God knows what I do not know and He knows the beginning from the end.
“Daniel answered and said, Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever; for wisdom and might are His. And He changeth the times and seasons; … He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to them that know understanding” (Daniel 2:20-21).
Surely, the Times and Seasons are in the very capable hands of God so I put my utmost trust in Him and His judgments and pray for His divine wisdom to guide all who seek Him in TRUTH.
The night before the elections, I was in Ho with my Evangelical Presbyterian (EP) Church praying for a very peaceful and successful election.
I am very happy that I held the flag of Ghana ???????? throughout the prayer session and as I continue to ascend into more higher realms of nation-building, it is my fervent prayer that Ghana will not die but live to glorify the name of God.
May God continue to bless our Homeland Ghana ???????? and make us greater and stronger.
