The government has been urged to formulate policies and establish an educational fund to support children in various orphanage homes across the country.
According to Mr. Aikins Mensah, also known as ‘Yes my Lord,’ Chief Executive Officer of Yes My Lord Company, he advised the government to formulate policies catering to the welfare of underprivileged children on the streets who are sent to orphanage homes.
He urged newly elected President John Dramani Mahama to consider this and allocate part of the country’s welfare to support orphanage homes, enabling them to care for children without parents.
Mr. Mensah made these remarks during a donation of items worth GH¢50,000.00 to the Village of Hope Orphanage School in Gomoa Fetteh, including food, clothing, water, oil, and more, to bring joy to the children during Christmas.
He appealed to Ghanaians to remember those on the streets and in orphanage homes during the Christmas festivities.
“We do not have to beg the government to implement initiatives that will improve the lives of the poor. It is the government’s responsibility to prioritise social welfare issues. Any country that has transformed prioritised social welfare. However, in Ghana, budget allocations for social welfare are woefully inadequate. Our government must take steps to release funds for social welfare. I especially urge the incoming administration to take social welfare issues more seriously. We should set aside some funds to support homes that help deprived children.
Rexford Essuman, Senior House Parent of the Village of Hope Orphanage School, commended Mr. Mensah for bringing joy to the children’s faces.
Additionally, he appealed to the government and individuals to support the orphanage, enabling them to assist the children further.
