President Akufo-Addo says his administration has managed the security of the country well.
The outgoing president stated that their collaborative efforts have ensured that “our country’s territorial integrity is intact.”
The President said this during his final State of the Nation Address (SONA) on January 3, 2025, in Parliament.
The SONA is a requirement captured in Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution.
It provides the president with an opportunity to report on the nation’s status before leaving office.
In his remarks, the President said, “Ghana remains the only country in the neighbourhood to have not fallen victim to terrorism. I wish to pay great homage to the security managers for the work done to keep the country safe,” the President touted.
He was also disappointed that the Bawku conduct was still ongoing despite efforts deployed in dealing with it.
“It is a matter of great distress to me that despite our best effort, the Bawku conflict remains unresolved,” he said.
On the issue of galamsey, he stated that “I knew that fighting galamsey was not a universally popular thing. But I was prepared to put my presidency on the line. The fight against galamsey led to the loss of many parliamentary seats. This impacted the numbers in parliament, which impacted my second term in government.”
