The Bibiani District Court has remanded a pastor and two accomplices into custody following a failed attempt to bury a five-month-old baby alive at a refuse dump in Abofrem.

The accused—Prophet Richmond Frimpong, the child’s mother Beatrice Agyapongmaa, and Emmanuel Appiah—face charges including conspiracy and attempted murder, while a fourth suspect, Donkor, remains at large.

The prosecution alleges that Agyapongmaa sought spiritual help from Frimpong for her child’s medical condition.

Labelling the infant a “spirit child,” the pastor reportedly performed rituals and later convinced the mother that euthanasia was necessary.

Although Frimpong eventually declared the baby dead, a local Unit Committee member, Winfred Agbah, intervened at the burial site and discovered the child was still breathing.

Presiding judge Lord Delvin Essandoh refused bail and ordered the Social Welfare Office to conduct an enquiry into the child’s safety, as the prosecution argued the infant remains at risk while in family custody.

The suspects have reportedly admitted to the offence, and the case stands adjourned until 5 May 2026, pending advice from the Attorney-General.
