The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has responded to claims by some victims of the Kantamanto fire that they were charged by some officers before receiving the report on the outbreaks.
Social media was awash with some allegations by some affected traders that they had been charged Ghc1,000 as cost for the fire report.
These individuals who had taken loans from the bank needed the report to inform their respective banks about the fire.
However, some alleged that they were asked to pay Ghc1,000.
The GNFS has issued a statement informing the public that it does not charge for such reports.
In the statement, the service said the practice is unauthorised and the public is wrongly advised not to pay any fees for such reports.
Meanwhile, the GNFS says it has launched an investigation into the allegations.
It has also asked persons with any piece of information to provide it to the service to assist with the investigation.
