The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has advised new Members of Parliament (MPs) not to disappoint their constituents.
He has also admonished them to dedicate themselves to addressing the pressing needs of their constituents and Ghana.
He encouraged them to honour the sacrifices made by their constituents who voted them in the elections by representing their interests in the House.
Speaker Bagbin said this at an orientation session organised for first-time MPs today, Saturday, January 11, 2025.
According to him, MPs bear a significant duty to secure the future of the people they serve.
“You are a role model. The lives of so many people depend on you. Don’t fail them. This is what touches my heart. As you go around you recollect how people are fighting for you, not just during the elections, but even today in the villages, defending you with their lives. And you are here taking it easy and toying with their future.
“It is not fair at all and the Almighty God himself will not bless you. Because you don’t need that blessing. And it is true. Whatever you sow, you reap it. So don’t think that you do good for any other person. You do it for yourself.”
