AngloGold Ashanti Ghana has, in a statement, confirmed the deadly clash between illegal miners and armed soldiers.
The incident the company revealed occurred at its secured operational area in the northern section of the Obuasi concession.
AngloGold Ashanti, in the statement released on Sunday, January 19, 2025, said that some armed illegal miners attempted to forcibly gain unauthorised access to the mine’s infrastructure.
The incident occurred on January 18, 2025, in Obuasi, Ashanti Region.
Seven persons have been confirmed dead, while four vehicles were also set ablaze during the incident.
The company says calm has been restored and added that it will collaborate with authorities to address the situation and prevent future occurrences.
