The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has formed a Special Investigative Team (SIT) to investigate the killings that occurred during the 2020 and 2024 general elections.
On January 10, 2025, President John Dramani Maham issued a directive, prompting the IGP to take action.1.21
According to the Chronicle newspaper, the SIT is made up of highly skilled officers from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) headquarters in Accra.
Chief Superintendent Joseph Nanegbe serves as the chairman.
The paper also reported that the IGP had written to the President, informing him that all necessary resources would be allocated to the team to ensure a thorough and transparent investigation.
According to the paper, the investigation will build on the work that Dr Dampare and his team have done since taking office in 2021.
Dr Dampare’s tenure saw the establishment of several key initiatives, including the Cold Case Unit at the CID headquarters.
