President John Dramani Mahama has named Muntaka Mubarak, a Member of Parliament from Asawase, as Minister-designate for Interior.
The former minority whip who also served as Sports Minister under the late John Evans Atta Mills.
His nomination was announced in the third batch of ministerial nominations issued by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, President John Dramani Mahama’s acting spokesperson.
If approved, the nominee for Minister of Interior will ensure that the Ministry’s mission of ensuring internal security and a stable and peaceful environment for long-term national development is realised through the initiation, formulation, monitoring, and evaluation of policies, regulations, and programs.
He is expected to do this in relation to the protection of life and property; disaster prevention and mitigation; immigration; crime control, prevention, and detection; safe custody; reformation; and rehabilitation of prisoners.
He will be in charge of executing the mandate of the ministry, which is to ensure internal security and maintenance of law and order in the country.
The mandate of the Ministry of the Interior and its agencies is guided by Ghana’s 1992 constitution. The Ministry is also governed by the Civil Service Act of 1993 (PNDCL 327) and other relevant legislation.
