The Regional Minister-Designate for the Oti Region, John Kwadwo Gyapong, has strongly defended his appointment considering his age.
The nominee, who is 74 years old, told Parliament’s Appointments Committee that if an 83-year-old man could be elected to the highest office of the land, he was more than qualified to be nominated as regional minister.
The former three-time MP, responding to a question as to why he did not hand over to any of his ten children, considering his age, strongly responded that he was still strong and willing to serve, and his age will not be a barrier to serving his party and country.
‘’Thank you very much. I am happy for this question because if even an 83-year-old person can be president of this country, I am wondering about a 74-year-old person. There is something you didn’t say in my CV: I am a founding member of this political party (NDC). My passion is to see that this party always wins the elections. Once I have the strength to help and cooperate, advise, and build the capacity of the youth who are party members, so be it; thank you.”
Meanwhile, the nominee has promised to work closely with industry players to establish processing factories aimed at enhancing agricultural development in the region.
“Oti Region is endowed with a very good land mass. We do cocoa and ginger, whatever it is, but unfortunately, we do not have any industry that processes these products in the region. When I get the nod, I’m going to consult, try to talk to stakeholders who will come to establish processing factories in cocoa, ginger production, cassava, and yam production in the region,” he stated.“I’m very confident with this. It will boost the economy of the region, and it will give employment to the youth of the region,” he added.
