The Catholic Archdiocese of Accra has clarified that a true Catholic cannot be a member of the church and join the Freemasonry.
A statement issued by the Archdiocese indicated that its position on the matter had not changed.
The Archdiocese says its attention has been drawn to several questions from members and the general public regarding the matter.
In view of this, it has disclosed that persons who identify as Catholics cannot join the secret society group.
The Archdiocese in the statement asked the youth of the Church not to allow people to deceive them that the Freemasonry is a society worth joining.
It posited that the principles of Freemasonry are irreconcilable with the doctrines of the Catholic Church, adding that Catholic members in Freemasonry are formidable.
It added that all members who are associated with the society are in “grave sin” and “may not receive communion.”
The statement went on to point out that some tenets of the society contradict the teachings of the Catholic Church.
The Church claimed Freemasonry has denigrated Jesus Christ, who is revered as God, and has further packed the Bible and other religious writings at the same level.
