Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has destooled the Chief of Ohwim, Nana Kusi Baaye II, on grounds of his involvement in illegal mining activities and the wanton sale of lands.

The chief of Ohwim was destooled at a sitting of the Kumasi Traditional Council on Monday, February 24, 2025.

Nana Kusi Baaye II, who has served as Ohwimhene for 16 years, was accused of desecrating the Great Oath, extortion, illegal land sales, and engaging in illegal mining activities.

The chief was summoned over the reckless invocation of the Asantehene’s Great Oath (Ntamkese), an act considered deceitful to Otumfuo and a desecration of the Golden Stool.

But during the hearing and testimonies provided by witnesses, including his sister, the Chief was accused of selling all the lands in the area, including the cemetery, creating a situation where residents in the area currently have no place to bury their deceased relatives.

After listening to all the testimonies, the Asantehene ruled for his immediate destoolment, reaffirming his commitment to upholding traditional authority and protecting the integrity of the Golden Stool.
