The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has inaugurated a 17-member ministerial committee with the aim of reviving the once vibrant but now declined film industry.
The minister has asked the committee to develop a strategic framework to rejuvenate the industry and create sustainable employment opportunities for industry players.
Members of the committee were drawn from various sectors of the film industry.
They include veteran actors Oheneyere Mercy Asiedu and Bill Asamoah.
The Comnittee will be chaired by Bishop Ofori-Adu.
Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, Dr. Amoakohene said
“As leaders of this nation, we urge you to unite and collaborate, as this unity will incentivise the president to dedicate additional efforts towards revitalising the industry. Unity is paramount to us in addressing this issue.”
The Minister later in a Facebook post wrote ‘’Today, I officially commissioned a Ministerial Committee on the Movie Industry & Creatives (Kumawood) to drive the growth and transformation of Ghana’s film and creative arts sector.
I urged the committee members to carry out their mandate with dedication, commitment, and a strong sense of unity to ensure that Kumawood and the entire creative industry reach new heights. Together, we will build a globally competitive film industry that tells the rich stories of Asanteman and Ghana!’’
