Augustus Goosie Tanoh, the presidential advisor for 24-hour economy and accelerated export development, has announced the decision by the government to amend the Public Procurement Authority (PPA) Act.
The move is part of efforts to prioritise the purchase of locally manufactured goods, reinforcing its commitment to promoting domestic production under the 24-hour economy policy.
He disclosed this when he participated in the post-2025 budget workshop organised for Members of Parliament (MPs) over the weekend.
He explained that the legislative amendment aims to strengthen local industries, stimulate economic growth, and encourage self-reliance in Ghana’s manufacturing sector.
Mr Tanoh stated that the initiative, known as “Go Ghana,” is designed to drive national transformation by encouraging Ghanaians to actively support local businesses.
“Other components of the 24-hour economy include a programme called Go Ghana, which is essentially a mobilisation effort. Every Ghanaian who cares about their community and country will be encouraged to contribute, whether through environmental sanitation or by prioritising the purchase of made-in-Ghana goods,” Mr Tanoh stated.
He said institutionalising this initiative would require modifications to the PPA law to provide a guaranteed offtake for local manufacturers.
Mr Goosie Tanoh noted that Ghana must prioritise its own products to achieve similar levels of industrial and economic development.
