Five political parties have served notice of a protest against the decision by President John Dramani Mahama to suspend the Chief Justice, Her Ladyship Justice Esaaba Torkornoo.
The political parties are the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Liberal Party of Ghana, People’s National Party (PNP), Ghana Union Movement (GUM), and National Democratic Party (NDP).
The parties agreed to embark on the protest at an emergency meeting held on April 24, 2025.
According to them, the demonstration is being organised in defence of Ghana’s cherished democracy.
The parties accused the president of blatantly disregarding the rule of law, which they claimed was not only a political matter but an assault on the very soul of our democracy.
A statement issued by the parties said this demonstration is a clarion call to all Ghanaians to stand for justice, defend democracy and protect our constitutional order.
The parties have scheduled their demonstration for May 5, 2025.
