Stop the unauthorised use and broadcast of contents or lose your license – NFA to TV stations

April 27, 2025
Kafui

The National Film Authority (NFA) has cautioned television stations against the unauthorised broadcast of creative content on their platforms.

A statement issued by the NFA stated that this violates copyright laws and threatens the integrity and sustainability of the country’s creative ecosystem.

According to the NFA, it has received numerous complaints from both Ghanaian and international content owners about the illegal airing of films, series, and other creative works on traditional and digital channels.

“These infringements violate content creators’ rights and discourage investment and creativity in the Ghanaian creative industries.”

The NFA assured that it remains committed to protecting content producers rights, and to end this, the NFA says it is currently working with other relevant institutions to investigate and take appropriate action against television stations that air content without authorisation.

It has therefore called on broadcasters to regularise all content by securing appropriate licensing agreements with copyright owners; respect intellectual property rights and uphold ethical broadcasting standards; and cooperate with the NFA to ensure all films and audiovisual content are classified before airing.

The statement was signed and issued by Executive Secretary Kafui Danky-Pitcher.
