The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has announced that the government is developing a new mathematics curriculum tailored for visually impaired students at the senior high school level.
He disclosed this at the official inauguration of the Ghana Education Service (GES) Council at the Ministry of Education.
According to Haruna Iddrisu, the move will enable visually impaired students to extend their career opportunities.
He assured Ghanaians that education will not be treated as a privilege; “It will remain a fundamental human right, with our commitment to make it increasingly available and accessible to all deserving Ghanaians.
“I am happy to announce that we are currently developing a curriculum in mathematics specifically tailored for visually impaired students at the senior high level that will promote inclusive education. A move that, for the first time, will allow visually impaired students in mathematics to gain access and extend their career opportunities.
“In addition, we are also designing a Ghanaian Sign Language Curriculum, which is also significant. We need to have some category; persons who are deaf and have hearing issues will be supported with that,” Mr Iddrisu stated.
He further stated that the government is working with the National Council for Assessment (NACA) to undertake some bold reform on the curriculum to make it truly inclusive.
