The Christian Council of Ghana, in collaboration with the Registrar General’s Department, has officially launched the 2025 Christian Home Week Celebrations.
The launch was held at the head office of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Church House, Kukua Hill, Osu, in Accra under the theme “Celebrating Marriage the Right and Meaningful Way”.
In his welcome address, General Secretary of the Christian Council of Ghana, Reverend Dr C.K.G Fayose, said the launch marked a significant milestone in the life of the CCG.

He noted that the celebration aims to reaffirm God’s divine purpose for marriage, provide biblical teachings and practical tools for healthy Christian families, and promote unity among member churches.
Reverend Dr Fayose emphasised the need for Christian households to uphold marriage as a sacred covenant and for church leaders to lead with renewed passion and commitment.
‘’The Christian Home Week celebrations are rooted in the Council’s unwavering commitment to the spiritual, moral and social fabric of Christian homes across Ghana.’’
The celebration aims to strengthen Christian families, provide biblical teachings and practical tools, and promote unity. It also seeks to educate members on Christian and legal principles concerning marriage.
Strong churches are built upon strong Christian leaders, and church leaders are urged to lead with renewed passion and commitment.

Chairman of the occasion Koku Anyidoho, Founder of the MILLS Institute, opined that marriage was a union between a man and a woman and not any other definitions by men.
To support his argument, he referenced the landmark ruling delivered by an English court, which defined a woman as a biological woman, meaning someone born female.
The ruling excludes transgender people from the legal definition of “woman”.
The court’s decision was unanimous and based on the interpretation of the Equality Act’s terms “woman” and “sex”.
“Indeed, the anthem of England vibrates with the words God save the Queen or King, depending on who is reigning as the supreme monarch. As it is, God has scared the King of England with this landmark ruling, which makes it more poignant that marriage is a sacred union between a male and a female as created by God and sanctioned by biblical texts.”

He also referenced the position of United States President Donald Trump, who refused to recognise transgender people, affirming his position that there were only two genders: male and female.
He charged the Christian Council of Ghana (CCG) not to give up its fight against LGBTQI activities, expressing optimism that even if any other body refused to support the fight against LGBTQI, it would continue to support the fight.
“The Christian Council of Ghana remains unbending in upholding God’s design for marriage between male and female, and Ghana will not compromise on this principle now and forever.”

The Mills Institute, he added, is one of the recognised institutions backing the enactment of the anti-gay bill, which criminalises single-sex activities.
Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs
Speaking on behalf of Ahmed Ibrahim, Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Chief Director Mr Baafi Nsiah commended the CCG for the initiative, assuring them that the government remains committed to working with religious bodies to maintain peace, religious tolerance, and proper family values.

He said marriage is a union that transcends legal contracts and social customs but is a lifelong journey.
He admonished the Church to offer hope to couples struggling with marriage through counselling and other support initiatives.
Mr Baafi Nsiah said the concept of marriage should be evident in the ministry of Christian leaders and balance their personal lives and their pastoral duties.
The ministry, he stressed, is partnering with faith-based organisations in fostering prosperity for the church, and, in reciprocity, the church is expected to provide support to the government through prayer.

A representative from the Registrar General’s Department, Mrs Grace Issahak, said the event and partnership with the CCG aim to educate LCC members on the proper legal and statutory processes for registering and celebrating their marriages.
The Marriages Act, 1884, 1985 Act 127 mandates churches to forward duplicate marriage certificates to the assemblies within seven days for onwards submission to the Department.
She added that assemblies are required to submit these church records from their own marriage registration to the department in compliance with the law.
However, due to inconsistencies, the application of these requirements and enforcement of the law have not been adhered to.

According to her, the Harmonising and Improving Statistics in West Africa Project (HISWAP), a regional initiative led by the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) with funding from the International Development Association (IDA) and the World Bank, has underscored the need to strengthen the statistical systems of participating West African countries by harmonising, producing, disseminating, and improving the use of core economic and social statistics, including data on marriages.
According to her, it was through this project that the RGD engaged with the CCG to deliberate on possible collaboration to prevent or reduce marriage-related lawsuits and prevent avoidable issues.
Member of Parliament for Okaikwei Central, Patrick Yaw Boamah, who is Ambassador for the Christian Home Week Celebrations, said it is important to celebrate godly marriages and uphold the values that strengthen our families and our nation.

He said the theme should remind Christians to reflect on the dignity, sanctity, and purpose of the holy union, adding that marriage is more than the ceremony and legal contract; it is a lifelong commitment built on love, submission, mutual sacrifice, unity, and respect.
The lawmaker firmly believes that if we honour marriage as ordained by God, we build strong public institutions, adding that marriage unites families and strengthens communities.
Special Guest of Honour, Mrs Fati Alabo, called on church leaders to teach everyone about marriage preparations.

She said marriage is an institution that God created and ought to be celebrated with Christ as the centre of the marriage.
According to the ordained minister of the Gospel, who has been married to Ambassador Dr Alabo, the youth are especially encouraged to fight for their marriages since it is a spiritual assignment to bring the generation that carries the anointing that God wants us to carry.
She also affirmed that marriage should be between a man and a woman and not any other definition.
The booklets for the Christian Home Celebrations were launched and auctioned at the ceremony.
