The Chief Executive Officer of Yes My Lord Company, who oversaw the receipt and distribution of donations for the renovation of the burnt Kantamanto market, has provided a comprehensive account of the donations received and their utilisation.
In an interview on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, he revealed that no affected trader utilised personal resources for the renovations. According to him, the total cash donations received under his purview amounted to GHC 1,111,200.
He further disclosed that non-monetary donations were valued at GHC 1,292,675.
Providing a detailed breakdown of the non-monetary donations, he stated that the opposition New Patriotic Party donated 900 bags of cement, former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia donated 200 packs of roofing sheets valued at Ghc310,000, Absa Bank donated 50 packs of roofing sheets valued at Ghc50,000, Despite and Brother Sarpong donated 62 packs of roofing sheets valued at Ghc77,500, Salikot donated 80 packs of roofing sheets valued at Ghc100,000, and importers donated 517 packs of roofing sheets valued at Ghc517,000.
Regarding cash donations, he specified that the Ghana Union of Traders (GUTA) contributed Ghc40,000; Alan Cash, Ghc100,000; Dr Bawumia, Ghc200,000; Nana Kwame Bedialo, aka Cheddar, Ghc50,000; Wendy Shay, Ghc10,000; Dennis, Ghc10,000; Kweku Bonsam, $1,000; Hanna Bissiw, Ghc10,000; a student group from Erica, Ghc200; Benjamin Azameti, Ghc10,000; Dennis Mensah, Ghc5,000; Plantain Sellers, Ghc5,000; Adavans Savings and Loans, Ghc20,000; Kwahu Chiefs, Ghc200,000; Vido, Ghc20,000; Pentecost Church Ghana, Ghc100,000; Opportunity Savings and Loans, Ghc100,000; and NPP Minority Caucus, Ghc200,000.
He also mentioned that Kennedy Agyapong, former Assin Central MP, and other corporate bodies attempted to donate but were asked to provide monetary donations instead due to trust issues.
Expenses for the renovations totalled Ghc750,998, leaving a balance of Ghc360,202. Mr. Atkins Mensah confirmed that he has accounted for his work and attempted to hand over the remaining cash, but due to trust issues among the traders, he had to deposit it with the police for safekeeping until an understanding is reached.
Additionally, there is another amount of Ghc105,000 held in the bank in the name of the Used Clothes Dealers Association.
