An Accra High Court recently granted Samuel Koku Anyidoho’s application for substituted service in a 5 million cedis defamation suit against Captain Smart and Media General Ghana Ltd.

The court ordered the notice to be posted on the High Court’s notice board, Media General’s walls, and online portals including Ghanaweb, giving Captain Smart and Media General 10 days to respond.

The latest update reaching Rainbowradioonline.com indicates that the notice has been posted at the premises of the media organisation and the online portals requested.

A court order dated May 08, 2025, was signed by a Deputy Registrar of the High Court, General Jurisdiction, LCC, Accra.

Koku Anyidoho filed a lawsuit against Captain Smart and Media General in January this year, following damaging statements made about his tenure as Head of Communications and Presidential Spokesperson during late President John Evans Atta-Mills’ administration.

Furthermore, Smart alleged Anyidoho’s behavior prompted Mahama to write a resignation letter, which was supposedly averted by former President Kuffuor and Asantehene, Otumfuor Osei-Tutu II.

The court order allows for the Substituted Service Notice to be posted on the High Court’s notice board, Media General’s premises, and various online portals, including Ghanaweb, which published the story which Mr. Anyidoho has described as false information.

Captain Smart and Media General had 10 days to respond through their lawyers, or they may face summary judgment and other constitutional orders.
The order was granted by Her Ladyship Ellen Lordina Serwaa Mireku, Justice of the High Court, General Jurisdiction 8.

Mr Anyidoho, in this case, is praying the court to

• Grant damages in the sum of Ghc 5 million as general damages, including aggravated and/or exemplary damages for defamation for the libel by defendants.

• An apology for and retraction of the words complained of and particularised supra.

• A perpetual injunction restraining the defendants, whether by themselves, their servants, agents or assigns, from repeating similar or other defamatory words against the plaintiff.

• Costs.

• And any other orders that the court may deem fit.
