The Member of Parliament for Anyaa-Sowutuom has declared that despite the low number of Minority MPs in the House is 88, it is far stronger and much more efficient compared to the huge numbers of the Majority.
Hon. Emmanuel Tobbin stated that while the number of MPs in parliament is important, you should also consider the quality and efficiency of the MPs.
He was responding to the failure of the NPP to retain a number of their seats in parliament.
He said that, despite losing a number of seats and reducing their seats from 137 to 88, the current 88 MPs are the ”mighty minority” with a group of brilliant MPs holding the government accountable.
”We have seen fewer than 88 before. Previously, we had 60 plus MPs before. Numbers are extremely important, but so is their quality. You can have quantity but not quality. I can confidently tell you that we are 88, but we are very strong and ready to fight to return the NPP to power.”
Hon. Emmanuel Tobbin, speaking on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, also refuted claims that the minority was launching unnecessary attacks on the government.
He cited the NDC’s opposition to the E-levy, which it regarded as a nuisance tax, only to come into office and impose the Ghc 1 fuel levy, which is four times the E-levy.
The MP added that the E-Levy was limited to those who used electronic transaction services, but the fuel levy will affect every single Ghanaian, and that was what the NPP opposed.
He referred to the government as jokers, saying, “They are jokers.” Governance is serious business, and their decision to blame the Iran-Israel conflict for suspending the levy’s implementation was unjustifiable”.
