The Management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has taken steps to address concerns regarding delays in the issuance of Staff IDs and the non-payment of salaries to some teachers.
According to GES, the new management, upon assuming office, undertook a nationwide staff validation exercise from 7th to 14th March 2025 to confirm genuinely recruited teachers and rectify recruitment anomalies.
This validation exercise was prompted by findings of irregularities as highlighted in recent audit reports.
On Monday, June 23, 2025, some aggrieved teachers picketed at the Ministry of Education over unpaid salaries.
In response to the teachers’ action, GES stated that a technical committee—including representatives of the aggrieved teachers—has been established to ensure prompt communication, feedback, and coordination.
GES also noted that a letter has been sent to the Ministry of Finance through the Minister for Education, requesting an extension of the expired financial clearance to enable salary payment processing. Fortunately, a budgetary allocation for this purpose was made in the 2025 budget statement.
GES further emphasised that it is actively working to resolve recruitment backlogs and to prevent future occurrences by addressing systemic issues within the recruitment process.
