The Ghana Fire Service has stated that it has been intentional about its strategy and training initiatives over the past five years, and that has made it attractive for qualified applicants to join the service.

Public Relations Officer for the Service, D02 Desmond Ackah, posited that gone are the days when individuals made disparaging and false remarks about the service.

Speaking on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, he said through intensive public education and collaborative engagements with stakeholders and communities where they operate, Ghanaians now appreciate the work they do.

“The GNFS has, for the past five years, been intentional in rolling out several initiatives to educate the Ghanaian public about what we do. In the past, people made disparaging and false remarks about our work. But through public education and advocacy, we have demystified all the myths and false information about us.

We have used social media and other means to engage with Ghanaians about the GNFS. All these initiatives have enlightened Ghanaians about our services and helped them appreciate us. That is why a lot of Ghanaians have shown interest in joining the GNFS.”

He noted that in 2021, the GNFS had the highest application turnout, demonstrating that the service has become attractive.

“Of course, there may be others who have different reasons for joining us, but from the research we have conducted over the past five years, we have discovered that the majority of those who join the service do so with the interest of serving their country—irrespective of the dangers and risks associated with the job,” he added.

He was optimistic that those who have joined the GNFS will serve with honesty, truthfulness, professionalism, bravery, dexterity, and integrity.
