Kingsley Adumattah Agyapong, Chairman for the UK Chapter of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), has proposed to the party to consider allowing former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and Kennedy Agyapong to partner and represent the party in the 2028 presidential election.
He believes this will give them a greater chance at uniting the party towards victory in 2028.
Wofa K, as he is affectionately called, argued that the scheduled January 31, 2026, presidential primary is between the two personalities with no possible chance for any other candidate to win.
In an interview with Rainbow Radio 92.4 UK, he stated that the election for the NPP’s flagbearer position will yield either the former Vice President or the former Assin Central MP as the candidate.
He posited that the NPP is not in normal times and it was time for them to rescue the party and secure victory in the 2028 general elections.
In his view, the party should not focus excessively on the flagbearer race, and if members genuinely care about the party, they should prioritize repairing the party’s damaged structure.
“My primary choice is that we should allow the two of them to partner and represent the party. From the two of them, anyone we elect as a candidate cannot help us win the elections if we fail to have leaders with the courage to crack the whip on those who will misbehave. We need leaders who will be able to chastise us, streamline us, and punish those who will go wayward. If we fail to do that, electing either Ken or Bawumia will not secure us the victory.’ He was convinced pairing the two will certainly get them victory through hard work and a united front against each other.”
He added that the party will also have a Herculean task in securing the votes they lost in the 2024 elections and convincing their party members who refused to vote in 2024 to do so in 2028.
He advised the two key contenders to also call their supporters to order so they will stop insulting and attacking each other.
