The Ghana Education Service (GES) has issued a directive for the closure of Nkwanta Senior High School in the Oti Region after a male student was tragically shot and killed in his classroom during mock examinations.
The student is reported to have died following an escalation of tribal violence in the area, which has left students fearful for their safety
GES ordered the closure of the school on Friday, June 27, 2025.
Two female students had sustained gunshot wounds on their way to school before the death of the male student occurred.
Details emerging indicate that the male student died from a stray bullet.
The Acting Regional Director of Education who confirmed the closure of the school said it was important for authorities to “safeguard the lives of students and staff.”
