The Chairman of the UK Chapter of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kingsley Adumattah Agyapong, commonly known as Wofa K, has called for a fresh change in the leadership at the national level if the party is serious about securing victory in the 2028 general elections.
He stated that the party is currently suffering from leadership and structural challenges, underscoring the need for the party to implement significant changes in its leadership.
Speaking in a recent interview on Rainbow Radio 92.4FM in the UK, he indicated that the 2024 election defeat should serve as an opportunity for them to get more competent and diligent personalities to manage the NPP.
He noted that the NPP is well aware of the reasons why it lost, including the arrogance of power, opulence, and lack of respect, among other challenges, which the party must address before going into any future election.
Wofa K disclosed that the party’s constitution requires that the leadership hold an annual conference, but the current leadership failed to do so.
“I am not the one saying this. Chairman Butey has already come out to admit that all the executives of the party have failed and that they have to resign, including himself. Currently, our chairman has taken a break due to ill health, and I pray God will grant him healing. The one to step in is Chairman Butey, who has openly admitted to the world that he has failed and has to resign. So how can someone who has admitted failure take over the affairs of the party? Is it not a failure again? In my personal opinion, I think the party needs to be fixed. That is the problem and concern people have about the current state of the party.”
He stated that the party should take its time and address the breakdown in its structure, which extends from polling stations to the national level.
Wofa K stated, “Dr Mahamudu did not cause us to lose the elections. If our polling stations, electoral areas, constituencies, and regional structures had been much stronger, with the national leadership acting as a strong regulator, we would not have suffered the humiliating defeat we saw in the 2024 general elections. The party was weak in the electoral areas and lacked regulation from the national leadership.
