The Electoral Commission (EC) will today, July 11, 2025, hold a rerun in 19 polling stations in the Ablekuma North constituency parliamentary election.
Voters in these polling stations will cast their ballots in the highly contested race, which has become a subject of court litigations and disagreements.
The EC took the decision to rerun the 19 polling stations after it failed to collate results for some remaining polling stations for which pink sheets could not be verified.
After the December 7 elections, the two major political parties, the NDC and NPP, had disagreements over 62 polling stations.
The issue was related to the authenticity of pink sheets and the collation process.
The EC, as part of efforts to address the issue, collated results from 59 of the 62 polling stations, leaving three unresolved.
However, the EC later declared its intention to rerun the election in 19 polling stations to ensure electoral integrity and transparency.
The electoral body has assured Ghanaians that the election today will be free, fair and transparent.
Speaking at a press briefing in Accra, Deputy EC Chair Dr Bossman Asare said, “We are desirous of bringing the election in the Ablekuma North constituency to a conclusion and to ensure that the constituents have a representative in Parliament,” he said.
Security has been heightened across the 19 affected polling stations to maintain order and ensure peaceful voting.
He also refuted claims that they have been forced into conducting the rerun, describing it as “unfounded” and saying it cannot be true.
“The Commission’s attention has been drawn to unfounded accusations that it has been influenced by certain individuals to pursue the rerun.
“We state categorically that Ghana’s electoral management body is an independent body and will not be dictated to by any person or institution. Our track record speaks for itself,” he stated.
He added that the institution received assurance from the Ghana Police Service and the National Elections Security Taskforce of readiness to ensure security before, during and after the rerun.
“We count on them to ensure that lives and properties are protected and that voters and our staff will work in a conducive environment tomorrow,” the EC said.
