The National Peace Council (NPC) has condemned the violence and assaults that were recorded during the parliamentary rerun in the Ablekuma North constituency.
A statement issued by the Council released on Friday, July 11, 2025, described the physical attacks on journalists and a former minister of state as violations of individual rights and threats to the peace and stability of Ghana.
“The Council strongly condemns these violent acts, including the assault at the Methodist Polling Station in Odorkor, and urges all voters, security personnel, and observers to remain calm, exercise restraint, and allow the Electoral Commission and security agencies to carry out their duties peacefully,” the statement read.
It further commended the Ghana Police Service for interdicting the officer who assaulted the journalist.
The NPC also called on party leaders and supporters of both the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to unite against political violence.
“The NPC is closely monitoring the situation and calls on all stakeholders to prioritise peace and uphold democratic values throughout the electoral process,” the release concluded.
