The Western Regional Police Command has apprehended three suspected armed robbers alleged to have participated in a daylight robbery.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, in Nyanikrom, near Shama Junction.
The suspects have been identified as Francis Mensah alias Francis Kwaw, 34, Ebenezer Cofie, 32, and Samuel Bentum, 35.
A press release issued by the Public Affairs Unit of the Regional Police Headquarters, Sekondi disclosed that the suspects were arrested through a targeted surveillance operation based on credible intelligence.
The suspects, according to the police, were aided by an insider and plotted to rob officials of a company located at Nyanikrom, with their primary target being company funds intended for salary payments.
The robbery took place around 12:00 p.m. on July 9, shortly after staff of the unnamed company had withdrawn a significant sum of money from a bank in Takoradi. Staff of the company upon returning from the bank were ambushed at Unique School Junction in Nyanikrom.
The suspects, who were on a motorbike and in an unregistered sedan vehicle, forcibly broke the company vehicle’s window and made away with the cash.
The police in response to the incident mounted surveillance in the area which led to the arrest of the three suspects and the recovery of a substantial amount: One Hundred and Forty-Nine Thousand, Five Hundred Ghana Cedis (GHc 149,500.00).
The suspects are currently in police custody assisting with ongoing investigation.
Meanwhile, authorities are actively pursuing a company driver identified as Maxwell Kofi Yeboah.
The driver allegedly conspired with the suspects and is currently at large.
