A mining pit at Akyem Wenchi in the Denkyembour District of the Eastern Region has collapsed, resulting in the reported deaths of four men and trapping 20 others.
Rescue efforts are currently underway to rescue those trapped underground.
Officials from the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), the Ghana Police Service, the Ghana National Fire Service, and the Ambulance Service are collaborating with local residents in the rescue efforts.
Despite their concerted efforts, respondents have noted that the unstable nature of the collapsed site is hindering their rescue attempts.
