Minister for Government Communication, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has alleged that a portion of public donations towards the National Cathedral project remains unreconciled, with over GHS38 million in mobile money contributions reportedly unaccounted for.
The amount, he stated, is unaccounted for due to failed transfers and incomplete records. He revealed this during a press conference held today, Friday, July 18, 2025.
He also highlighted discrepancies in the financial management of the highly publicized endeavor.
He alleged that millions of cedis donated by Ghanaians through mobile money platforms to support the construction of the national edifice cannot be properly accounted for.
He cited “failed transfers and missing records” as the primary reasons for the substantial financial discrepancy.
Felix Kwakye Ofosu added that the National Cathedral project has cost the state a total of $97 million.
According to him, contrary to the widely held view that the total payments and commitments made to the project amounted to $58 million, there remains an outstanding $39 million due to the contractor. This, he said, brings the total cost of the stalled project to $97 million.
“It bears noting that documentation available indicates that contrary to the widely held view that total payments and commitments to the National Cathedral Project amount to $58 million so far, there is an additional outstanding $39 million payment due the contractor. This will bring the total cost incurred for the hole at the site of the project to $97 million.”
