The Ashanti Regional Police Command has initiated an investigation following the recovery of a substantial cache of weapons and ammunition from an abandoned vehicle on Sunday, August 17, 2025.
A statement released by the Service revealed that the discovery, which included an AK-47 assault rifle and a locally manufactured firearm, occurred after two suspects fled the scene during a routine patrol.
The statement indicated that the Kuntanase District Patrol Team was conducting a patrol on the Aputuogya-Bekwai road when they spotted a white Toyota Sienta with registration number NR 289-24 parked suspiciously.
Upon seeing the police, two men standing by the car fled into a nearby bush, according to the statement. A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered two AK-47 magazines, numerous rounds of ammunition, Wellington boots, a smartphone, cowrie shells, and personal identification documents.
The vehicle and all recovered items have been impounded at the Kuntanase Police Station as exhibits for the ongoing investigation.
Meanwhile, the Police has appealed to the public for any information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects, urging them to contact emergency numbers 191, 18555, or 112.
The Police, in a statement issued by Deputy Superintendent of Police, Godwin Ahianyo, Head of Public Affairs, reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all residents.
