Let experts decide if we need a new presidential jet and end the senseless political debate – Analyst

August 23, 2025
Asiedu Tetteh

Security analyst Andrews Asiedu Tetteh says the debate over purchasing a new presidential jet is not a new issue; it simply recycles itself because we fail to learn and move forward. He argues that a presidential flight is non-negotiable and should not be a subject for debate.

Tetteh stated that we have experts who should examine the current aircraft to determine its fitness for purpose.

“We can deploy experts to examine the current flight and determine if it is fit for purpose and if we can repair it, or if we must purchase a new one because it would be dangerous to use,” he argued. “We are talking about the President, so we must focus our debate on expert advice, not political sentiments.”

Speaking on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, he indicated that politicizing the presidential jet issue is senseless and unnecessary.

He acknowledged that while some may have concerns about purchasing a new jet during the current economic crisis, we cannot undermine the President’s safety and security.

A president, he explained, may choose to forego a new flight because the country lacks the necessary resources. In contrast, another leader might decide to purchase a new aircraft regardless of the consequences.

Andrews Asiedu Tetteh stressed that the over-politicisation of every single issue in Ghana threatens our stability, democracy, and progress, and we must stop it immediately.

He added that young politicians who could have served as a source of hope to change the political scene appear to be more corrupt, arrogant and insensitive to everything they do.
