‘No Merit’: Kwesi Botchwey Jr. alleges personal feud driving Adu-Boahene’s prosecution

September 30, 2025

Private legal practitioner and aide to former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Kwesi Botchwey Junior, has asserted that the prosecution of former National Signals Bureau Director General, Kwabena Adu-Boahene, lacks supporting evidence.

He contends that the state’s allegations against Adu-Boahene are unsubstantiated and essentially a “chase after a ghost.” Mr. Botchwey Junior claims the trial is fundamentally motivated by personal grievances held by certain individuals against Adu-Boahene.

“There is no merit in the Adu-Boahene saga,” Kwesi Botchwey Junior stated. “He is being prosecuted because of perceived personal rifts some individuals have with him. That is why he is being prosecuted.”

The lawyer further argued that the Attorney General has failed to produce any evidence to support the claims, despite making what the lawyer describes as defamatory remarks against Adu-Boahene.

“One basic question we have to ask the Attorney General is: there was an amount of Ghc41 million allocated to purchase a cybersecurity system, which allegedly was not done. However, there is a letter to prove that the system was purchased from ISC Holdings, the Israeli company, contrary to the allegations made against Adu-Boahene,” he elaborated.

Mr. Botchwey Junior noted that Adu-Boahene filed a defamation suit against the Attorney General following the remarks, where the AG claimed Adu-Boahene and his wife had created a web of companies to misappropriate state resources. “The Attorney General later went to court, but it has emerged the investigation surrounding the matter was shoddily done, it was incomplete, and they didn’t exercise any due diligence during the investigation,” he claimed. He concluded that while the AG initially claimed to have a water-tight case, it is now evident that the case has significant loopholes.
