Late Founder of Resurrection Church left No written instructions over who to be his successor – Lawyer

October 20, 2025
Boakye

Kojo Kum Aban, lead counsel for the Resurrection New Generation Church, has disclosed that the late founder and general overseer, Rev. Anthony Kwadwo Boakye, who passed away in February 2023, did not leave behind any document explicitly naming a successor.

The private legal practitioner stressed that the matter of church leadership is governed by the church’s constitution. He stated that because the issue is currently pending before a competent court of jurisdiction, he is constrained from offering further commentary on the succession itself.

Mr. Kum Aban confirmed that “a handful of aggrieved church members” have instituted a legal action against the church concerning who should take over from the late founder.

“On the matter of who is to succeed the late general overseer, I do not wish to offer any commentary, as the matter is currently sub judice [pending before the court],” the counsel stated. “I am confident that the church’s constitution, or the evidence presented by those who have taken the church to court, will serve as the guiding principle for the way forward.”

When directly asked whether the late leader left written instructions for his succession, Mr. Kum Aban was categorical: “As his lawyer, I can state that the late man of God did not write anything of that nature. However, it must be established that the late man of God founded a church, and that church is guided by a constitution and other documentary evidence lodged with the Registrar General’s Department.”

Allegations of Police Misconduct

Furthermore, the counsel revealed the church’s leadership plans to petition President John Dramani Mahama regarding alleged misconduct, intimidation, and harassment by the Police against some church members.

He accused the Police Service of taking an “entrenched position” on recent internal church affairs, which he claims is contrary to their professional Code of Ethics.

The lawyer alleged that some police officers have actively sided with one faction in the church to facilitate their takeover of the leadership, a situation he believes is the root cause of the current confusion.

Mr. Kum Aban concluded by stating that the church currently has a recognized and legitimate governing body that was duly instituted by the late Rev. Boakye.
