President John Dramani Mahama has announced that his government will construct a Catholic Science and Technology University and a regional hospital in Damongo in the Savannah Region.
He disclosed this when the Catholic Metropolitan Archbishop of Tamale, Most Rev. Philip Naameh, paid a courtesy call on him at the Presidency.
According to President Mahama, initial funding for the proposed university will come from the $30 million grant promised by the Chinese President, Xi Jinping.

He stated that the hospital, after completion, will serve as a teaching facility for the proposed Catholic Science and Technology University.
He also mentioned that the project will include a Faculty of Medical Sciences to train medical doctors and other allied health professionals.
He maintained that his government remains committed to revamping Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions.
Archbishop Naameh, on his part, raised various educational and social issues affecting the northern sector and made a passionate plea for redress.

The meeting was attended by the Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu; Presidential Advisor and Special Aide to the President, Joyce Bawah Mogtari; Elvis Afriyie Ankrah of the Office of the President; and Deputy Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Rita Naa Odoley Sowah.
