Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has lauded what he described as Ghana’s unique religious cohesion, citing its crucial role in fostering peace, stability, and love among Ghanaians.

In an address delivered on his behalf by Fred Oware at the opening ceremony of the Christian Council of Ghana’s (CCG) Maiden Ecumenical Convention on Saturday, November 15, 2025, Dr. Bawumia emphasized the spirit of unity.

Mr. Oware noted that although Dr. Bawumia is a devout Muslim, he strongly believes in the oneness of humanity, asserting that all citizens are one, irrespective of their religious affiliations or beliefs.

The Former Vice President expressed his gratitude for the CCG’s invitation, recognizing the respect and honor extended to him.

He particularly commended the CCG for the bold initiative of organizing the first Ecumenical Convention, which he viewed as a vital opportunity to strengthen and foster unity among the different denominations within the country and internationally.

Mr. Oware highlighted the significance of the convention’s theme, “Uniting the Body of Christ for Greater Impact,” stressing its importance when the focus is Christ-centered.

He drew a parallel, stating that just as the body of Christ has various parts, the Christian community comprises diverse denominations.

”Dr. Bawumia asked me to come and congratulate you for the bold initiative of organizing this first Christian Ecumenical Convention gathering. To him, it is a statement of fact that Christ established one church, uniting it with his own body, for which reason Christians also refer to themselves as the body of Christ. This body has several parts, just as in the Christian gathering where we have several denominations, but nonetheless, it remains the same body.”

On behalf of Dr. Bawumia, Mr. Oware encouraged the Church to maintain a united voice when addressing national issues that affect Ghana’s development.

He also expressed concern over the conflicting nature of prophecies, particularly during election years, questioning the state of affairs within the prophetic ministry.

He added that spirituality is an intrinsic part of humanity and that worship should be conducted in truth and spirit.
