Musician Captan has cautioned parents against compelling their children to pursue careers that do not align with their interests.
He emphasised that discovering and nurturing a child’s talent from a young age is crucial, rather than forcing them into professions like medicine, which may ultimately lead to undesirable outcomes.
During an interview with Eddie Ray Host of the midmorning drive on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, Captan shared his personal experience of developing a passion for music at a tender age and dedicating himself to it.
As a gifted writer and rapper, he advocates for parents to guide their children towards careers that spark their interest, rather than imposing their own preferences.
Captan posited that some medical professionals, such as nurses, may mistreat patients due to a lack of genuine interest in their work, having been coerced into these roles by their parents.
Similarly, doctors who were pressured into their profession may not perform optimally, potentially leading to severe consequences.
He urged parents to observe their children’s inclinations and nurture their talents, rather than forcing them into careers that do not resonate with them.
Captan noted that this approach would help prevent situations where individuals are clearly unenthusiastic about their profession, such as nurses who lack passion for their job and appear discontent.
“‘That’s why we recently have nurses who have no form of passion for the job and are always frowning. It’s because they don’t have the passion for it. They are the ones who have been forced by their parents to be doctors or nurses.”
