Captan, a Ghanaian musician, says he was a music lover from a very young age, so it’s not surprising that he’s pursuing the craft professionally today.
According to him, he used to listen to a lot of music, particularly reggae with Bob Marley, Sizzla, and other musicians, prompting his mother to ask if he was smoking weed.
The musician revealed that while in school, instead of concentrating on writing his notes, he was rather writing rhymes and raps because he loved music a lot.
Captan, speaking in an interview on the mid-morning show on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, told host Eddie Ray that while in Junior High School 3, he performed at their graduation ceremony, following which the headmaster confronted him and told him it was because of music that he was failing his science, mathematics, and other subjects.
‘I knew I wanted to do music, and so I didn’t take science and other subjects seriously. I was just taking my English, Literature, and Social Studies seriously.’
He stated that he sees music not just as entertainment but as an opportunity for shared experiences.
He also expressed his love for foreign movies at a younger age.
He has therefore advised parents not to force their children into pursuing career paths they have no interest in.
Captan noted that when we discover the talents of our children at a tender age, we should support them in pursuing that and not force them to be doctors; otherwise, they’ll kill people.
“‘That’s why we recently have nurses who have no form of passion for the job and are always frowning. It’s because they don’t have the passion for it. They are the ones who have been forced by their parents to be doctors or nurses.”
