The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has launched an investigation into the fire outbreak that claimed the lives of six people at Abuakwa Manhyia near Wadoma Hotel in the Ashanti Region, which occurred in the early hours of Monday, December 22, 2025.

The Service first extended its deepest condolences to the bereaved family, friends, and loved ones affected by this tragic incident, saying, “We share in their pain and mourn this painful loss with them.”

According to the Service, the outbreak involved a seven (7)-bedroom self-contained residential building with GPS Address No. AH-0984-1040, owned by Mr Kusi Abayie and occupied by Madam Mary Serwaa and family.

It said, “The Service received the distress call at 0053 hours, and the fire appliance from Nkawie Fire Station was immediately dispatched and arrived at the scene at 0115 hours, led by Station Officer Two (STNO II), to meet an advanced staged fire which was spreading in all directions.

Firefighting operations were later reinforced by personnel from the Twedie Fire Station, bringing the fire under control at 0157 hours and fully extinguishing it at 0322 hours.”

GNFS posited that despite their efforts, the entire building and its contents were completely destroyed by the fire.

“Six (6) badly charred bodies, believed to be members of the same family, were retrieved by firefighters and handed over to the police at the scene.”

Meanwhile, the Service has advised the Ghanaian public to be careful with heavy burglar-proofs and security doors in their homes.

It said, “While security is important, buildings must also allow quick escape and easy access for rescue teams during fires or related emergencies.”
