Residents of Nudu Akwamu were thrown into a state of shock on Tuesday morning following the discovery of the body of 66-year-old James Kofi Agyemang in a suspected suicide.
The deceased, a well-known local money lender and a twin, was found at approximately 11:00 a.m. on January 7, 2026. While initial reports suggest suicide, the circumstances surrounding his death have sparked intense speculation among members of the community.
According to witnesses, Mr Agyemang was last seen alive earlier that morning, sitting quietly under the same tree where his body was later discovered. When residents realised he was unresponsive, they immediately alerted the local authorities.
Police officers processing the scene recovered a black bag belonging to the deceased. Inside, investigators found GH₵7,000 in cash along with several personal documents.
The community is currently divided over what led to the elderly man’s death. Reporting on Rainbow Radio’s Nyankonton Mu Nsem, journalist “Mr. Simple” noted that several theories are circulating.
Some residents speculate that Mr Agyemang may have been murdered by a debtor seeking to avoid repayment, with the scene staged to look like a suicide.
Other unverified rumours suggest the deceased may have been struggling with personal health stigmas, specifically allegations regarding impotence, which some claim may have led to deep emotional distress.
The police have officially launched an investigation to determine whether foul play was involved or if the death was indeed a suicide.
The body has been conveyed to a medical facility for preservation and autopsy.
