Reports from the Upper West Akim District indicate that suspected grave looters have desecrated the burial site of the late Ibrana Roja, the younger brother of the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Nuhu Shaributu.
According to Prince Collins Bening, reporting for Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, the act is believed to have been carried out by ritualists or individuals involved in “sakawa” related rituals.
The looters struck during the late hours of Saturday night at the Islamic cemetery where Roja was interred.
In a gruesome discovery, it was reported that the body of the late cleric was severed, with several body parts missing.
While the family has confirmed the incident, they have declined to provide a formal statement, citing Islamic beliefs regarding the sanctity and privacy of the deceased.
This incident has heightened local fears regarding ritualistic crimes.
Recently, a similar case was reported in the area involving an individual who allegedly committed suicide; upon discovery, the body was found with the tongue and genitals removed.
