Joseph Osei Owusu, Chairman of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Elections Committee, has urged the party’s five presidential aspirants to pledge their commitment to accepting the outcome of the presidential primary scheduled for January 31, 2026.
During a peace pact signing ceremony held in Accra on Thursday, January 22, 2026, he emphasised the importance of this commitment.
Mr Owusu expressed his expectation that all contestants would affirm the transparency, inclusivity, and fairness of the primary process and pledge their support to the victorious candidate.
He noted that this would foster confidence among party members, enabling them to campaign and vote freely for their preferred candidates without fear of division or intimidation.
“We want the contestants to affirm that the process has so far been transparent, inclusive, and fair. We want them to commit to accepting the results, and we want them to commit to supporting whoever wins out of the five contestants,” he said.
“We believe this will allow or enable members of the party to build the sufficient confidence we need to be able to freely campaign and vote for whom they choose,” he said.
The former legislator asserted that the pact would be treated as binding by all aspirants, adding that adherence to the pact would strengthen the party ahead of the 2028 general elections.
“Our prayer and faith is that this pact will be taken seriously as a binding pact that will be between the party, the team of saints [presidential aspirants], and our God. I pray that at the end of it all, the party will come out stronger and ready for the 2028 general elections,” he stated.
