The family of the late Ga Manye, Naa Dedei Omaedru III, has officially visited the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs to debunk media reports claiming the Queenmother has already been buried.

Led by Asafoatse Nii Kotey Ga II on Thursday, January 22, 2026, the family clarified that the remains of the late Queenmother are still in their custody.

Following traditional protocols, the family first presented the House with drinks before delivering their formal message.

Asafoatse Nii Kotey Ga II informed the Council that the family remains the primary custodian of the body, a revelation that visibly shocked the House of Chiefs.

Members expressed deep concern over how misinformation regarding the burial could have been circulated in the media.

In response to the news, the Teshie Mantse encouraged the House to accept the drinks and acknowledge the report of the demise.

However, he advised that the sensitive matter be discussed in camera (privately) and requested that the family provide further details at a later date to be determined by the House.

King Prof. Odaifio Welentsi III, President of the Regional House of Chiefs and Nungua Mantse, issued a stern warning during the proceedings:

“This is shocking. But I can assure you that if it emerges that you lied to the House of Chiefs, you will be severely sanctioned. We will never spare you because this is a serious statement. You will have to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that what you are saying is true.”

He further noted that the House is prepared to establish a special committee to investigate the claims. He emphasized that: If lied to: The family will be dealt with “ruthlessly” and face severe sanctions and if proven true, the House will take charge and support the family in organizing a befitting burial.

The family has consistently maintained that they are still in the preparation stages for the actual funeral rites.

They have urged the public to ignore any previous funeral ceremonies, asserting that those events were organized without the involvement or consent of the bereaved family.

Following the meeting, family spokesperson Farouk Osman Abdul expressed gratitude to the House for their reception. Speaking in an interview on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, he confirmed that the House of Chiefs has requested their return at a later date to move forward with the matter.
