MP John Darko condemns attacks on Justice Pwamang Over Kpandai rerun dissent

January 29, 2026
2059

John Darko, legal counsel for the minority in parliament and member of parliament for the Suame constituency, has condemned the unwarranted attacks and vilification directed at Justice Gabriel Pwamang following the Supreme Court’s ruling on the Kpandai parliamentary rerun order issued by the High Court.

Mr Darko stated that Justice Pwamang’s dissenting opinion, contrary to the four-member majority decision to quash the rerun order, was within his legal right as a judge.

He advised against any form of verbal attacks on the judge, noting that while his reasoning could be examined and critiqued, insults were unwarranted.

The lawmaker expressed surprise at the dissenting opinion, given the overwhelming evidence presented.

In a Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM interview, John Darko stated that they would await the court’s full decision on February 6, 2026, to study and understand the reasoning behind Justice Pwamang’s dissent.

The Supreme Court’s decision, made with a majority of four to one, set aside the November 24, 2025, judgement of the High Court in Tamale, which had nullified the 2024 parliamentary election results for the Kpandai Constituency. Following the ruling, Justice Pwamang faced harsh criticism, which the Suame MP deemed needless.

“The judge expressed his opinion on the matter within his right as a judge. The court stated its position, but they have informed us that the reasoning behind their position would be released on February 6, 2026. We will take time reading the reasoning and find out why he dissented despite overwhelming evidence. It is purely within his right as a judge. He is an experienced and respected lawyer and senior at that. But we also have the right to critique the reasons he will provide and then explain it to Ghanaians. The outcome is a fair judgement, legally sound, and we are grateful to the Supreme Court.”
