Ghana and Japan have formalised a US$20 million grant agreement to significantly enhance healthcare infrastructure and service delivery in the Northern Region.
The agreement was finalised through an exchange of notes at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, signed by Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and Japanese Ambassador to Ghana H.E. Hiroshi Yoshimoto.

The facility is specifically designated for selected hospitals in the Northern Region.
The allocated funds will be utilised to upgrade diagnostic and treatment capabilities with modern medical equipment and simultaneously expand the physical capacity of regional health centres.

This initiative aims to improve overall accessibility to healthcare services and effectively reduce existing barriers to quality, affordable care for local communities.
Minister Ablakwa said in a statement on Facebook that the initiative aligns with the Mahama administration’s priority of providing quality and affordable healthcare to all Ghanaians.

Both representatives reaffirmed their commitment to impactful diplomatic cooperation, noting that the grant is a tangible demonstration of the long-standing partnership between Ghana and Japan.
