Use Ramadan to pray for world peace – Jomoro MP urges Muslims

The Member of Parliament for Jomoro Constituency in the Western Region, Dorcas Affo-Toffey, has called on Muslim communities across the country to pray for the world as they embark on Ramadan.

Madam Affo-Toffey, who is also the Deputy Minister of Transport, urged the communities to pray against the impending war between Israel, the USA and Iran.

Speaking during a recent engagement with the Muslim community, the MP emphasised the importance of the peaceful coexistence between Muslims and other religious groups in the Jomoro enclave, describing it as a model for the nation.

In light of the escalating conflict involving Israel, Iran, and the United States, Madam Affo-Toffey urged Muslim leaders to utilise the holy month of Ramadan as a period of intense intercession.

To support the Muslim community during this period of spiritual reflection and prayer, the lawmaker presented a substantial consignment of food items, such as 100 bags of 50 kg sugar, 100 cartons of milk, 15 boxes of 100 boxes of Milo and 100 boxes of tea bags.

She specifically requested the performance of Solat Hajat (special prayers for a specific need) to seek peace in the Middle East and the world at large.

“The world is at a crossroads; as our brothers and sisters observe this holy fast, I urge them to lift up prayers for the leaders of these nations. ”.

We need a ceasefire and a commitment to ‘smoke the peace pipe’ for the sake of humanity,” she stated.

The Deputy Transport Minister’s concerns come as the maritime world faces a massive crisis.

Following joint military strikes by the U.S. and Israel against Iranian targets, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has officially announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

This 21-mile-wide chokepoint is often referred to as the “jugular vein” of the global economy.

The implications of this closure are staggering, as roughly 20% of the world’s petroleum passes through this strait daily.

A quarter of the world’s Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) relies on this route.

In effect, dozens of tankers are currently trapped in the Persian Gulf, and major trade hubs like Jebel Ali have been effectively cut off.

The IRGC has begun broadcasting radio warnings to all commercial vessels, halting all passage through the artery.

As a Deputy Minister of Transport, Madam Affo-Toffey acknowledged that a prolonged closure of the world’s most vital maritime oil artery would have a direct and significant impact on Ghana’s economy, potentially leading to rising fuel costs and disrupted supply chains.

She has expressed hope that diplomatic efforts would prevail to prevent further global economic instability.

To support the Muslim community during this period of spiritual reflection and prayer, the lawmaker donated a substantial consignment of food items, including 100 bags of 50 kg sugar, 100 cartons of milk, 15 boxes of Milo, and 100 boxes of tea bags.

The leadership of the Muslim community expressed their gratitude for the gesture and the MP’s consistent support, pledging to join the call for national and global peace.
