Ghana is ready for its first female President – Rev. Dr Joyce Aryee urges political parties to prioritise women

Rev. Dr Joyce Rosalind Aryee, Executive Director of Salt & Light Ministries, a Christian para-church organisation dedicated to empowering Christians to reach their full potential, has expressed strong confidence that Ghana will soon elect its first female president.

As a management and communication consultant, she stated that Ghana has made significant strides, paving the way for a female leader to emerge.

Noting the country’s progress in democratic development, including the appointment of the first female vice president, Rev. Dr Aryee argued that electing a female president is not only plausible but also imminent.

She revealed that it is her fervent prayer for God to facilitate this milestone.

Rev. Dr Aryee said that Ghana boasts competent, diligent, and dedicated women who possess the capabilities required for the highest office in the land.

”It is one of my fervent prayers that Ghana will soon have its first female president. I pray strongly for a time when we will have a female finance minister, a female defence minister, and women leading any other ministries they are capable of handling. We have made progress; we now have a female vice president, and the path from a female vice president to the presidency is not long. I am confident we will gradually reach that point.”

Meanwhile, she also expressed concern over the limited number of women currently serving in Parliament.

To address this, she proposed that political parties ensure they file more women as candidates in parliamentary elections. Specifically, she urged the two major political parties to allow more women to contest “safe seats”.

This suggestion, she noted, aligns with the affirmative action goals that have been championed in Ghana for years.

She was speaking to commemorate International Women’s Day, celebrated annually on March 8.

The 2026 theme, ‘Give To Gain,’ promotes a mindset of generosity and collaboration through the IWD campaign, emphasising the power of reciprocity and support.

She encouraged women to remain bold, fearless, and aspire to greater heights where they can find themselves.
