The Minority Caucus in Parliament has asked the government to, with immediate effect, pay outstanding tuition fees for Ghanaian scholarship students at the University of Birmingham.
According to the minority, the government has failed to honour its financial obligations under the scholarship programme administered by the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat.
This was disclosed at a press conference addressed by the member of parliament for Sevelugu, the Hon. Abdul Aziz Fatahiya.
She urged the relevant authorities to act swiftly and decisively to resolve this matter. When Ghana invests in its young people, the nation must stand firmly behind them,” she noted.
According to her, the students’ visas have expired, and attempts to secure graduate visas have been unsuccessful, leaving many at risk of removal.
She stressed the need for urgent government intervention, including the immediate settlement of fees and diplomatic engagement with UK authorities to prevent further hardship for the affected students.
The MP warned that failure to act could damage Ghana’s international reputation and undermine confidence in its scholarship programmes.
